Ships At Sea 04:16
Ships at Sea I waited and watched by the sea I looked for you, you looked for me still ships they pass, how can that be? ships they pass, how can that be? Out from lights that blinded you Out among the stars that guided you It's colder now with one Than it ever was with two Before you turn away There's no shame like regret Curse this modern day This life is to....forget. The single cloud that covered the sun Ending all that had begun When you think of it now, what would you have done? When you think of it now, what would you have done? Hands that hold precious hearts Hearts that fold and fall apart If we knew the end Would we even start? Before you turn away There's no shame like regret Curse this modern day This life is to....protect. I raced you up to the sky The first to fall was the first to die I wondered how, I wondered why I wondered how, and wondered why Hands that hold precious hearts Hearts that fold and fall apart If we knew the end Would we even start? Before you turn away There's no shame like regret Curse this modern day This life is to....forget.

Rider Ride 03:31
Rider Ride Rider ride from this home A widower, at last alone Take from me all I own I've walked this earth through fire & snow Not all conditions have their cure Not all fates written are for sure This hand is strong, this heart is pure But this decision is not yours Like Jonah in the whale who kept his heart but lost his sail i don't pray but i will keep you safe when all else fails We are all hearts and bones The parts we love, we've carved in stone But one day soon, the stone is gone And all our works have come undone Like Jonah in the whale who kept his heart but lost his sail i don't pray but i will keep you safe when all else fails

Devil in the Head The ice is thin, I think we'll all break out I let you in but I still have my doubt The wind that shakes the tree I'm in I fall down The ground that shakes beneath my feet We fall down I know I know devil in the heart I know I know devil in the head I know I know devil in the heart I know I know devil in the head You said I will, and I still hold to that I love you still, and I still want you back The wind that shakes the tree I'm in I fall down The ground that shakes beneath my feet We fall down I know I know devil in the heart I know I know devil in the head I know I know devil in the heart I know I know devil in the head A map that you found so long ago You wear your love just like an arrow All that you found, give tomorrow A map that you found so long ago Devil in the head, devil in the head, devil in the soul Devil in the head, devil in the head, devil in the throat Devil in the head, devil in the head, devil in the soul Devil in the head, devil in the head, devil in the soul

No Return 03:05
No Return Our hearts will mend as best they can If we give more than we get There's no time quite like the present Do it now lest we forget I don't want to say...goodbye Brace yourself for the coming storm La la la la la la If we make it through the winter I believe we'll all get by I don't want to say...goodbye All we have is all we get No return and no regret

St. John 02:49
St. John Well who is puppet, And who is master? Hear this trumpet call all gamblers to their knee To saint john of the cross Saint of all bastards Rubs his fingers and cries this plea Would I were a sailor On the high seas Sailing through danger In better company Or better still a martyr And you'd wear black for me Wish I was the man I used to be Who is master and who is the master's son? Where have you been when it's been so goddamned long To saint john of the cross, saint of all bastards Cradles his hands and sings this song Would I were a soldier in the great war Or that I had the wisdom to know what it was for Your love was a cruel mistress not easily ignored Still I wish the man I was before I wish I was the man I am no more

Death At Last The day i was born the trouble started Mum did die of a broken-heart A sailor did I become And sailed the seas by star and sun And when the sailing it was done I'd take to land where trouble runs I had a wife, I had a son I'd court the devil and drink his rum On the land I was a fool Drank and cursed and gambled too The night was long and the day was cruel I lived to die but I failed that too One fine day in desperate need I joined a crew for Barbary The fiercest storm came right crashing Through our bows southern bearing Well I fixed my boot, I turned my ring But I was lost until I heard you sing We lashed our spines to the mast And heard the maidens sing at last At last, at last they sang to me And as the ship went down at sea Well I was glad and right happy That death at last had come for me

Let me down easy Let me down easy Despite the trouble I've made Let me down easy When I go down in my grave You could've done better Like father like son God bless the goddamned More than anyone So I let you down easy Despite what you done I let you down easy When you go and when you're gone It ain't all been Sweet flowers and sin Still I would come back If you would let me in So let me down easy Despite the trouble I've made Let me down easy When I go down in my grave When I down in my grave

about

Although it has taken longer than I expected, I love how this album came together - in bits and pieces. These songs were recorded all over the place - in my bathroom, in noisy bars, in friends' closets - some in Brooklyn, some in California - and somehow it sounds like we're all right there.

For example, 'Ships At Sea' has a simple piano part that was recorded at my local bar. A friend let me drop by in the afternoon one day, and i setup a mic right by the piano. The ice machine and a/c are crunching away in the background somewhere. And the female harmony is my friend Erica singing in my bathroom. Vive le DIY!

Other songs have a similar story, of pieces cobbled together over time. The songs themselves echo themes of love and loss but what was especially unexpected in creating this album was the harmony that comes from working with great friends. I really want to thank Aaron and Max for keeping the faith, and for making it all come together.

'Feets' is the second release from Secondstar, a Brooklyn-based folk-pop band.

The album was recorded in Brooklyn and California.
