Death At Last

The day i was born the trouble started
Mum did die of a broken-heart
A sailor did I become
And sailed the seas by star and sun
And when the sailing it was done
I'd take to land where trouble runs

I had a wife, I had a son
I'd court the devil and drink his rum
On the land I was a fool
Drank and cursed and gambled too
The night was long and the day was cruel
I lived to die but I failed that too

One fine day in desperate need
I joined a crew for Barbary
The fiercest storm came right crashing
Through our bows southern bearing
Well I fixed my boot, I turned my ring
But I was lost until I heard you sing

We lashed our spines to the mast
And heard the maidens sing at last
At last, at last they sang to me
And as the ship went down at sea
Well I was glad and right happy
That death at last had come for me
